Manfrotto Assignment

Thought I would toss up the Manfrotto Assignment that we had to shoot for Multimedia class, pretty open and fun assignment. So I shot my lovely girlfriend with a nice fleece blanket for a background, got the Zeus 1250 pack w/ the AlienBees ring flash - which I have wanted to try out for soo long now, and wasn't disappointed

I was stoked to do that ooze dripping off the Impact Label font, I used to do a ooze dripping font for literally every assignment, book report, short story, movie review, or essay titlepage I had in elementary school... most teacher were not amused... I thought it was the coolest thing from the NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK years, to the Limp Bizkit years. But I haven't used it for anything in so long...

So if I learned one thing from this assignment it would be to never forget the power of childhood memories.

Preliminary Environmental No2

This week I got the privilege of shooting Breck Wardle for my environmental. Great model and great times, thanks to Rachel Power for assisting during the shoot.

Breck nailed it, she rocked a faux fur vest from Aritzia, American Apparel denim print one piece and 4.5 inch Spring kicks. sorry Riedeau Centre... but I'm a student and all of which are going to be returned this week lol... thanks for the loaners?

This was shot from my balcony, at f/11 loving the depth of field, loving the clouds as well... looks dirty and RAW, tell me what you think!

I'm hoping to get into the studio this week so follow up for some sheltered portraits! until then check out Josh Asselstine's Blog, my good friend, he has some new and great band shots up!

Prelim Enviromental/Seconds before Dave Throws up...

Well i guess we didn't have to if we didn't want to, but I needed to get some shooting in. This is Dave Jeff's, not a pro model by any means but he is definitely up to the modeling challenge, even when he is sick.... very sick... well lets not beat around the bush here, he puked all over the woods on this shoot haha. Bummer! I felt pretty bad so I only got a few good shots off before we tore down the SB's and umbrellas we almost literally just put up. But it was a pretty good time never the less.

I really wish I had some more time with this shot, I was actually so upset when i got these on my computer. nothing was working out on that shoot... another example: this originally was going to be shot with a 24mm, but the lens's focus was completely off so I had to lock in an 85mm instead... quite the difference.

I can't say that i didn't learn from this shoot though, I know now to double check my equipment, batteries on wizards, sb's, lens calibration... and i know now I want to do something completely different for my environmental. I'm shooting as soon as possible so stick around for some Victorian Street Funk shots, and possibly heading back to those woods.

Richmond Fair Poster

Last weekend I had the pleasure of being able to shoot the Richmond Fair all weekend for FREE... for an assignment, little did I know that we were going to have to create a poster for the fair using one of the images we shot! Snap, Jason (no pun intended).

The idea behind not telling us that we were going to have to make a poster was to show us that when you know exactly what is asked of you before you go out and shoot, it makes your life alot easier and more stress free. Point taken, If our group knew that we had to make a poster from one of the shots we took... the day would have been... well... productive. Not saying that we didn't get a lot of great shots... we did for sure. But most of the time was spent making fun of each other, carnies and how boring fairs are at 1 o'clock on a Friday afternoon.

I thought this would be good for a poster because the snake would really pop off the page and catch the viewers eye. I also like how its not the average animal or sight you would see at a fair, and I chose big in your face letters that instantly tell you what the poster is about. kinda feels like a teaser, makes you want to see more and look into what it's about. Honestly though, the snakes were very impressive, much better then Lamas and goats.

I whipped this one together too cause I wanted to have variation, and I also wanted to give one a kind of retro feel to it. I like that it is just so damn simple, composition wise this is so simple. But it gets the point across... come to the fair and buy high priced greasy food from criminals, or at least that's how I see it.

A special thanks to everyone at The Richmond Fair for letting us shoot all weekend, it was a great time, with great friends.

Buddy Holly's

Dear Thomas,

Here is my shot for this week's photo blog on facebook.

This week was contrast as most of you who are reading this know. sooo i donno... basically i just wanted to do the basic shoot turn to black and white and raise the contrast.... cause then it would be obvious contrast. but if you want to get deeper into my brain - I wouldn't - but you could say it's showing the contrast between different people and how they react when given funky glasses and forced in front of a camera and a big flash lol.

But, take from it want you want!

ps.. if anyone hears about a job opening, please let me know asap. As some of you know I got fired for asking why my pay cheque bounced. Yes, I got my money but, now im jobless...

Snowy Train Track Shoot

behind the scenes (photo cred: Thomas...)

Dear Thomas,

Today You, Mel, Steve Jess and I braved the random ass snowy weather and shot some small flash stuff under a bridge and down some train tracks. Suuuch a good time!

These are a couple of the best-of's, shot with shoot through umbrella's, with a D3 and 70-200mm. I've never shot with the 70-200mm (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/70200vr.htm) and WOW, great lens, the depth of feild is amazing, it's super light and the quality is fantastic... still probably going to go with it's sister lens the 80-200mm (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/80200.htm).... might need some cashola first....
